Organic vs normal

Yesterday after writing my last blog, I decided to start making paleoized deserts before I start cheating big time. Well I definitely cheated today by having some greek yogurt this morning (i'll still accept it as healthy) but I also ate a full box of spanakopitas :s. After dealing with that guilt, I started making my apple/almond scones and chocolate truffles. There was a much bigger guilt stirring in me...not every ingredient was ORGANIC!!!

Me and the boyfriend were grocery shopping for all the ingredients and the question happened...Where the eff are all the organic chocolate, coconut flakes, almonds etc.? I am now forced to make half organic deserts! ARG!

I don't know much about organic foods but my knowledge is increasing ever so much. I know that organic food is free of pesticides, herbicides, hormones, fertilizers and other chemicals. Organic produce often looks smaller and ripens faster than normal grocery store produce. I always wondered why wild strawberries tasted better than store bought ones. I learned that regular strawberries are showered with fertilizers and do not grow properly, explaining the big white hole in the middle of them. Their natural growing season is also during our winter, so you will find better, juicier strawberries in the cold winter months. Now why would anyone want to buy subpar produce when the real thing is around the corner and tastes so much better? Yeah Yeah I know it's expensive, but replacing a bad habit with buying organic is definitely worth it to me.

My boyfriend, Eddy and I have slowly started to make the transition to organic produce after watching several documentaries: Food Inc., Food Matters, Ted Talks: Chew on this. They are all on my OMG WHAT WAS I THINKING list and can all be found on netflix. Seriously...Watch it!

Well I should stop this rant here before I can continue.

PS: for my Paleo dinner Last night I had maple/balsamic glazed salmon with bacon wrapped asparagus and sweet potatoes.
